Josef Schaffler: 45 years of service for the Red Cross in Feldbach
After over two decades as district rescue commander of the Red Cross Feldbach, Josef "Sepp" Schaffler now hands over the scepter to his successor Oliver Christandl. The handover not only marks a change in the leadership of the district, but also the end of an era for Schaffler, which has been in service to the Red Cross for around 45 years.
In his 20 years as commander, Schaffler was a central figure when it came to the management and coordination of the emergency services in the region. Under his leadership, the district office was entrusted with responsible tasks such as the organization of duty roster, the training of the rescue employees and the preparation for disaster operations. Schaffler looks back at a time when he mastered significant challenges, as in the years of the refugee crisis and during pandemic when the Red Cross played a crucial role in test facilities and emergency services.
a heart for the youth
Schaffler was particularly important to promote young people. He was instrumental in founding the first youth-red cross group in Kirchberg in 1988. This initiative was the foundation for many other youth groups across the country. Schaffler's commitment to the youth was emphasized by his successor, Oliver Christandl: "I have completed my community service myself under Josef Schaffler.
his soon -to -be “unrest” does not come entirely unexpectedly, and he is praised for it by many colleagues and community managers. Christian Rath, the district manager, and Markus Fuchs, the managing director, expressed their thanks for Schaffler's tireless efforts. Mayor Josef Ober emphasized that more respect and recognition for the work of the paramedics was necessary, and emphasized that Schaffler always lived with great passion for his task.
Oliver Christandl, Schaffler's successor, steps in big footsteps. The 36-year-old has a variety of experiences that he gained during his civilian service and his subsequent job in the RK Feldbach. He was not only involved in refugee care, but also in disaster operations and to deal with the challenges during pandemic.
The handover of the command will continue to be pursued by many, because the performance of the Red Cross will be essential for security in the region. The high commitment of the full-time and volunteers, who work strongly in the Feldbach district, guarantees reliable help for the population.
