Zulstoff Pöls AG: Investments and innovations for the region
Zollstoff Pöls AG has made impressive progress in Upper Styria and is a prime example of industrial growth and innovation. As part of the Heinzel Group, the company has invested more than 800 million euros in the Region since 2005. These investments comprise 320 million euros in pulp production, 330 million euros in paper production and around 70 million euros in the energy infrastructure.
A central element of these developments is your own energy generation. The company operates two steam turbines and operates two hydropower plants that produce the necessary energy together with photovoltaic systems on the roofs of the production halls. This enables cellulose Pöls not only to supply yourself with electricity, but also to supply thousands of households in the Murtal with energy. At the same time, the company also provides district heating that is obtained from the waste heat from the production processes.
Current investments and challenges
The company currently spends 102 million euros again to implement two major projects. This happens in an economically tense situation, which makes the efforts all the more remarkable. The expansion includes the introduction of unbleached pulp and the commissioning of a new paper machine at the Steyrermühl location.
The Pöls location has increased its number of employees to currently 540 and thus proves the positive development of the company. Werner Hartmann, a member of the board, emphasizes the opportunity to achieve more than many believe. This positive view is also reflected in the nominations for the innovation award "Courage", in which pulp pols were honored together with Ferk Metallbau and the healing thermal resort Bad Waltersdorf.
