FPÖ triumphs in Liezen: election results and protest against the head hospital
The state election in Styria is over and the results cause a stir. A total of 941,509 people entitled to vote were asked to the urns. The trend in the Liezen district is most evident, where the Freiheitiche (FPÖ) resulted in 42.6 percent of the votes as a clear winner. This marks a remarkable doubling of your result compared to the last choice, which corresponds to an increase of 24.2 percent compared to 2019
The People's Party (ÖVP) follows 22.4 percent, but had to accept a loss of 11.8 percent. The Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) ends in third place with 20.0 percent, a minus of 7.5 percent compared to the last election. Other parties such as the NEOS and the Greens listed mixed results: While the NEOS rose by one point to 6.6 percent, the Greens halved their result from 2019 and landed at only 4.6 percent.
Influence of the lead hospital on the election result
A central topic of choice was the planned construction of a motto in Stainach-Pürgg. In the election in Rottenmann, 63.2 percent of the voters supported the FPÖ, which indicates a clear rejection of the central clinic plans of the ÖVP and SPÖ. FPÖ also reached 51.0 percent in Schladming, which can be seen as a sign of the protest against the lead hospital developments. In contrast, the ÖVP in Paltental landed in the last place with only 5.1 percent.
The election in the Liezen district has not only redesigned the political landscape, but also illustrates how strongly local topics the votes can influence. The coming weeks will show how the parties react to the needs of the population.
