Leobens chocolate rooms: Schokoria Elisabeth closes - what now?
In Leobener Straußgasse there are sad news for confectionery lovers: The popular “Schokoria Elisabeth” shop will close its doors at the latest in March 2025. The owner Bernhard Posch said that increased costs and unsustainable delivery prices have pushed him to make this difficult decision. "It just doesn't make sense anymore," Posch commented on the difficult situation after a potential successor jumped.
In the beginning, Posch had hoped to maintain the business by the end of 2024 to wait for the busy months for Christmas. But now it is clear that the closure will not be carried out until next March. The employees were informed about their termination in a WhatsApp message, which was an unfortunate decision in view of the circumstances.
The way to closure
The new owner who took over the business in February 2023 was full of plans. However, the desired changes, such as the redesign of the website and the introduction of an online shop, could not be implemented. Despite the passion that was invested in the confectionery and the loving packaging service, the online trade failed to materialize, which is a decisive factor for business success today.
"We were able to build a striking customer base for 34 years," Kurt Trampus, who led the business in front of Posch, looks back on the past. In addition, they sold an impressive 157,000 handmade chocolates annually, with almost a hundred customers flocked to the shop every day. This loyalty of the customers testifies to the high quality of the products, which is highly valued in the region.
a ray of hope at the end of the tunnel
Despite the devastating message, there may be a glimmer of hope for the Leoben snack cats. Trampus mentioned that an entrepreneur with whom he had negotiated about a successor shows interest in opening a new confectionery shop. However, this new contact point would not be at the previous address of Schokoria Elisabeth, but at another location in Leoben.
The noble chocolates, which are produced in the Confiserie Lauenstein in Upper Bavaria and in the Jindrak confectionery, could therefore remain in the city, at least in a different form. That would be a gratifying news for the fans of the chocolate creations and those who want to continue to maintain the tradition of confectionery in Leoben.
