Styria chooses: This is how the election Sunday in your community expires

The Styrian population is called on today's election day to give up their votes. In Mooskirchen, not far from Graz, the first voters have found their way to the ballot box since 6.30 a.m. Other polling stations, such as the one in the Volkshilfe Senior Center in Weiz, only open at 10 a.m. While some polling stations close early, the citizens in Graz have the longest possible way to vote until 4 p.m.

The state election authority announced that 191,452 election cards were issued, which is a new record and corresponds to more than 20 percent of the population entitled to vote. The majority of these election cards were already used before the election day. For the voters, there is the possibility to submit their voice by election card until Sunday.

top candidates and their plans

The top candidates know how important this day is. NEOS top candidate Niko Swatek was the first to cast his vote on November 15 and appealed to the citizens to use their right to vote. His message: "The last elections in the federal states show us: Whoever chooses tactically loses." He wants to spend time with his family on election day. Other top candidates also use the day relaxed. Governor Christopher Drexler from the ÖVP plans to visit a church and a café in his home community in addition to the voting. Mario Kunasek from the FPÖ wants to spend the morning with a family breakfast, while Anton Lang from the SPÖ will vote in his hometown Leoben shortly before noon.

Sandra Krautwaschl from the Greens has planned to give up their vote in the morning. Claudia Klimt-Weithaler from the KPÖ is planning her voting at around 10 a.m. in the Liebenau district of Graz, followed by a coffee with her daughters and a relaxing round with your dog.

election results and future expectations

The first projections are expected at around 4 p.m. after the polling stations in Graz have closed. Foresight experts determine this taking into account the first counts, with a fluctuation width of two percentage points forecast. According to the electoral authority, the preliminary end result should be announced at 9:00 p.m. The votes for the postal voting cards are only counted on Monday.

A total of nine parties and lists are available today, including six, which have started in all four constituencies, as well as three, which are only represented in constituency 1 in Graz and the surrounding area. The FPÖ was able to record significant growth in the last elections, which was particularly interested in the 2019 state election.

In view of the previous surveys,

an exciting head-to-head race, especially for the ÖVP, is shown to expand its previous election victory. The first extrapolation is expected with great excitement and this is reflected in the large number of election parties that are already planned in the party centers and other local event locations.
