Westbahn brings a breath of fresh air: New south route from 2026!

The Westbahn, the private rail transport company, which has been operating in Austria since 2011, has big plans: From March 1, 2026, there will be a new connection on the southern railway line that leads from Vienna via the Koralmunnel to Villach. This was announced by the Westbahn and promises five daily connections via this route with stops in Bruck an der Mur and Graz. In the long term, the Westbahn plans to establish an hourly clock between Vienna and Villach-but that depends on the completion of the Semmering-Basistunnels, which is expected to be completed in 2030, as reported on steiermark.orf

travel times and trains

The new high -speed trains will be up to 250 kilometers per hour and enable a travel time of three and a half hours between Vienna and Villach and two and a half hours to Graz. These trains are provided by the Westbahn with a total of eleven wagons that offer space for 422 passengers, with two entrances to be barrier -free. This measure aims to support not only long -distance travelers, but also commuters who want to use the connection quickly and easily.

At the same time, ÖBB Infra is thinned out by the timetable between Innsbruck and Bregenz/Lindau between April 23 and 28, 2025 due to maintenance work. Many trains fail during this time or end in Innsbruck Central Station. These changes concern, among other things, the connections from and to Innsbruck, while other connections, such as those between Vienna, Salzburg and Munich/Stuttgart, are not influenced by these work, such as westbahn.at . Travelers are advised to find out about the updated departure times in order to advance any inconvenience.
