New Year's Eve in Vienna: traffic jams and locks on the last day of the year!
Wien, Österreich - On December 31, 2024, Vienna became the scene of the 48th International Viennese New Year's Run, which attracts thousands of participants. This impressive event leads through the city center, with the route run over the university ring, Schottenring, and Franz-Josefs-Kai. The traffic warnings have already been pronounced: from 10 a.m. the ring between Operergasse and Schottengasse will be completely blocked. Furthermore, the sections follow from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., especially in the areas that affect the running track. Police powers will regulate the traffic and the boundary conditions for pedestrians and drivers are a challenge, since crossings are only possible to a limited extent. A circumference is recommended via the Vordere Zollamtsstraße or the belt, as the ÖAMTC reports.
sporting events and celebrate on New Year's Eve
In addition to the New Year's Eve run, the legendary New Year's Path will be opened in Vienna from 2 p.m., which transforms the city center into a huge celebration landscape. With over 18 artists and DJs, the ditch becomes the largest “ballroom in Europe”. The anticipation for the festivities is great, but the wide range of traffic and the locks must be accepted. While the festivities are running, tram lines 1, 2 and 71 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. are temporarily shared or led shorter. Users of the subway are also affected by the restrictions, so the Stephanplatz station remains closed until 2 a.m., which requires a bypass, according to the current information.
In other cities in Austria, the celebration is also made: Linz starts with the "Hypo New Year's Eve run" and Graz offers sporty events in the city center. Innsbruck has its own New Year's Eve run, while the events have various restrictions - from traffic disruptions to blocked roads. The ARBÖ recommends everyone to leave the car in order to be able to enjoy the celebrations carefree, since public transport will be significantly affected by the locks, also reports Kosmo.at.
