Ofner and Misolic on a high altitude: attack on state championships!

On June 2, 2025, the Austrian tennis players Sebastian Ofner and Filip Misolic held a press conference in Vienna, in which they are optimistic about the upcoming state championships in Oberpullendorf, which take place from June 28th to July 5th. Both players belong to a strong Austrian contingent, which also includes Lukas Neumayer, Jurij Rodionov and Dennis Novak. However, their participation in the state championships depends on their progress in Wimbledon, where they have to compete in the second round in order to continue their ambitions.

MISOLIC reflected on his impressive experience during the French Open, where he challenged the legendary Novak Djokovic. After a total of six matches in Paris, he describes this time as "fantastic". In the coming days, he plans to recover in Graz and Croatia before deciding whether to continue playing on lawn or sand. He is currently in 140th place in the ATP ranking and has the goal of reaching the top 100. Misolic emphasizes that he trains hard and feels in good shape. He hopes for another invitation to training with Djokovic.

success in Båstad

On the same day on which the press conference took place, Misolic and Ofner were able to set a convincing sign at the ATP-250-Sandplatz tournament in Båstad, Sweden. Misolic defeated Dusan Lajovic, currently in 61th place in the ATP ranking, after 1:55 hours in the match with 7: 6 (4), 7: 6 (4) and thus reached the round of 16. For Misolic this was the first victory outside of Austria on the ATP tour.

Ofner, in turn, triumphed against Tomas Martin Etcheverry, who was in 6th place. After an initial gap in the first sentence, he was back into the game and finally won 4: 6, 6: 1, 7: 5. With this success he celebrated his sixth victory in a row, an impressive run since his first round defeat in Wimbledon.

look into the future

After the victory, Ofner will meet Bernabe Zapata Miralles (ATP-53.) In the round of 16, against whom he was already successful in the past. A potential duel in the quarter -finals could be against Casper Ruud, number one of the tournament. Meanwhile, Misolic meets Jozef Kovalik in the round of 16, who previously defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Both players have clear goals in mind: Ofner, who is currently in 108th place, wants to increase his points for the Australian Open and is working specifically on his impact rate, which is currently between 50 and 55 percent - well below the level of top players, the values of 65 to 70 percent. ÖTV sports director Jürgen Melzer basically commented positively about the developments in the Austrian tennis and sees the potential of the two players in the coming weeks and months.

The upcoming state championships in Oberpullendorf and the matches in Båstad are crucial steps in the career of Ofner and Misolic, who continue to work on their goals with iron discipline and optimism.
