An Austrian emergency team of the C-130 "Hercules" had immediately broken up to northern Macedonia to transport the seriously injured. A total of three flights are planned to ensure that the injured people can be supplied in the hospitals in Graz and Vienna as soon as possible. On Monday morning, the first aircraft with two patients already landed on board in Graz. Treating patients with serious burns is a demanding challenge, since most hospitals in Southeast Europe are not optimally equipped to treat the most serious injuries.
Austria's government emphasized that it is important to act in solidarity in these difficult times. Chancellor Christian Stocker formulated that all of Austria was at the side of the Macedonian friends and wished all injured a quick recovery. Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner and Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger also made it clear that support in acute emergency situations was a matter of course.
