ÖBB and AUA: New rail connection to Star Alliance from 2025!

The ÖBB and the Austrian Airlines (AUA) have started significant cooperation that enables travelers to fly with a single ticket within the Star Alliance. This partnership, which includes the integration of the train trip as a feeder flight, allows passengers to travel comfortably by train to Graz, Linz, Salzburg and Innsbruck without having to buy separate Tickets. "We want to offer our travelers a continuous travel chain," said Aua boss Anette Mann. Travelers can also benefit from a sustainable journey to the airport and save park costs at Vienna Airport, as ÖBB boss Andreas Matthä said. It was particularly mentioned that the ÖBB has been cooperating with AUA for ten years and has already used 3.1 million passengers in 2024.

A critical point of this new agreement is the threat of airports in the federal states. According to reports, this will lead to the flights too often thinned out or even adjusted if the travel time is under three hours by train. After the opening of the Semmering tunnel, this becomes relevant for connections such as Graz and Klagenfurt. The new transport minister Peter Hanke emphasized that a modern business location needs a modern infrastructure, which also results in billions of construction projects.

travel connections to Vienna Airport

The expressway offers an inexpensive way to get from the Vienna Center to Vienna-Schwechat Airport. The S-Bahn line 7 runs every 30 minutes and takes about 25 minutes to drive. Alternatively, there is the City Airport Train (CAT), which drives from Vienna Mitte to the airport in just 16 minutes, as well as various bus connections that efficiently connect the capital to the airport. A taxi also offers a direct drive, but at a higher price. So there are numerous options for travelers to get to Vienna-Schwechat conveniently and quickly, as is reported on Schnellbahn-wien.at
