Grazer Leonhard-Friedhof, Graz, Österreich - On January 29, 2025, Graz was shaken by a brutal knife attack. A 73-year-old woman was attacked by a previously unknown perpetrator with a Stanleyesser at the Leonhard cemetery, visiting the grave of her late husband. The aggressive injuries, including on the neck and face, led the woman to be in mortal danger and urgently had to be operated on. According to information from Kleine Zeitung , the victim is now in a stable condition, but has not yet been questioned due to their health.
The investigation by the Styria State Police Directorate is difficult because there are no witnesses and the perpetrator is still at large. Police spokesman Heimo Kohlbacher commented on the ongoing investigations: "The state of the investigation is still unchanged here. The murder agents try to determine all the information here and also pursue them accordingly." In response to this violent act, the police increased their presence in the cemeteries to ensure more security, as well as ORF Styria reported. "We try to be as best as possible in the public sector in particular, in particular the cemeteries," added Kohlbacher.
The Graz population should not feel frightened. According to the police, one endeavor to create a safe environment, even if 100 % security cannot be guaranteed. The investigators continue to ask for information from the population that could lead to the culprit. The shocking bloody deed therefore remains the focus of the public and the investigative authorities.
