Fraud mesh in Graz: Unwanted tenants caught up in Finten!

A Graz couple who wants to remain anonymous was victim of a perfidious fraud when trying to rent an apartment. In Neubaugasse they found a 71 square meter apartment on a real estate platform that initially appeared completely legitimate. The supposed brokers were friendly and the tour went without any problems. But after two canceled handover dates, it turned out that the apartment was actually intended for an airbnb apartment and never for long-term rentals. The deposit of around 2,500 euros was already transferred when the fraud was uncovered. In this case, the police are investigating, since similar fraud stitches are increasingly occurring, such as Orf Styria reported.

In the meantime, another scandalous fraud from Graz causes a stir. A 73-year-old couple has married 12 times over decades and divorced to obtain claims for widowing pensions and terminals. This perfidious system brought the pension insurance institution to damage of over 326,000 euros. The Supreme Court made it clear that divorces with the exclusive goal of obtaining pension claims are abusive. And although the couple has always lived in the same household, their double game remained undetected until the public prosecutor Graz became active, as dagens.de . This example draws attention to the increasing number of social service fraud cases that rose to a maximum of 25.5 million euros nationwide in 2023.
