ATM blast on the Eggenberger belt: Police on the trail of the perpetrators!

In the morning at around 5:00 a.m., a ATM was blown up by previously unknown perpetrators on Karl-Moree-Straße/Eggenberger belt in Graz. The police and rescue workers were immediately alerted, and all roads in the crime scene area were closed for about an hour, as did local public transport including trams and buses. According to Orf Styria it was luckily without injured. The perpetrators were able to flee and the police immediately initiated a search.

This ATM is part of an alarming series that occurs in Austria. Another ATM in Tyrolean Haiming was recently blown up on Tuesday night, although the perpetrators escaped without prey. Again and again damage is caused in the millions, often the repair costs clearly exceed the captured sums. For the perpetrators, the legal consequences could be serious, as the Criminal Code stipulates. According to Akademie Kraatz , the punishments can range to several years of prison, and the amount of punishment depends on the circumstances of the crime.

The current approach to such crimes is necessary to fold the perpetrators into account and to set an example against these unscrupulous deeds. Despite the high risks of law enforcement, the perpetrators prefer to blow the ATMs instead of getting together in a legal way. This dangerous development requires faster action by the police to improve the security situation and prevent further incidents of this kind.
