Wolf from the Hermagor district killed again - security measures take effect
In the Hermagor district, a risk wolf was killed again. This was done on Saturday, when the animal was killed in accordance with the applicable Carinthian Wolf Ordinance. The authorities received the report on the shooting on time, within 24 hours of the killing. The State of Carinthia confirmed that the necessary requirements of the Wolf Ordinance were observed, in particular the prescribed minimum distance of ten kilometers to the last extermination measures.
The Wolfs Ordinance of Carinthia is designed to minimize potential conflicts between wolves and humans. Despite the prescribed measures, the risk wolf near inhabited areas was shown, which made the decision necessary to shoot. The entitled to hunting in the relevant region were informed about the killing, which meant that the possibility of withdrawal for the further wolf individuals in this area has expired.
Carinthia committed regulations
A total of 15 wolves have been killed in Carinthia since the introduction of the wolf regulation. Carinthia is the leading state in Austria when it comes to wolf shots. These regulations are discussed controversially because they call both supporters and opponents. The first wolf that was killed in accordance with the regulation was about two years ago, and since then the number of kills has continuously increased.
The question of dealing with wolves remains a sensitive topic. The regional hunters and nature conservation groups follow the developments closely and are in a constant exchange about the future strategy in dealing with these wild animals.
