Feuerwache Ost at Dietrichsteinplatz: the same celebration for sustainable new buildings

Am Dietrichsteinplatz in Graz is developing an important project: the new Feuerwache Ost. Today the same celebration was celebrated, a traditional custom to honor the progress of the building. In bright weather, numerous guests were able to marvel at the impressive construction progress. The celebration was accompanied by representatives of the Graz professional fire brigade, GBG Building and Baumanagement Graz GmbH as well as various urban departments and architects, which underlined the importance of the project.

fire director Klaus Baumgarnter expressed his joy over the quick progress of the project and described the new building as a “milestone” in the long history of the Graz professional fire brigade, which goes back to 1853. The new location should not only shorten the fire brigade times, but also improve the city's security infrastructure.

As part of the same celebration, the traditional "wood, wood, wood ..." was celebrated, which delighted many present with the decorated tree on the roof. Fire Brigade City Councilor Manfred Ebner in particular emphasized the importance of the construction of a new building after 135 years at this location, which is of great importance for both the fire brigade and for the security of the city.

The construction work for the East fire station started in the summer of 2024 after the local council unanimously voted for the project in April 2023. The focus is on sustainability in this new building. The use of wood in the construction, greening of the facade and the consideration of climate -friendly standards are just a few of the aspects that make the project a pioneer in urban construction.

The establishment of the building also includes an innovative solution for the exposure and ventilation of sustainability. Two large atria ensure that daylight gets into the back rooms and at the same time a pleasant atmosphere is created. Architect Burkhard Schelishansky, who is responsible for the design, emphasized that the timber construction is not only aesthetically appealing, but also contributes to improving the micro climate in the area.

Mayor Elke Kahr emphasized the importance of the new building as the "important component of the security infrastructure" in Graz in her greetings.
