New beginning in Deutschlandsberg: Gunther Riedlsperger heads the ÖVP
At the Styrian People's Party in Germany, there is an exciting change at the top. The city party conference recently took place in the Gamsbad in Bad Gams, in which Jürgen Kovacic laid down the scepter. Gunther Riedlsperger was voted the new city party chairman with an impressive 98.5 percent.
Before a stately assembly of around 130 delegates, Riedlsperger took over the microphone after Kovacic announced his resignation. The former chairman emphasized that he would like to devote himself to new challenges at the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK). Kovacic had been in office for a decade and said goodbye with the best wishes for the future and the upcoming municipal elections in March 2025. Overall division manager Werner Amon headed the meeting and spoke to the new chairman by wishing him every success with his plans.
The future in view: Riedlsperger has great goals
Gunther Riedlsperger was motivated immediately after his election and presented his vision for Deutschlandsberg. A central concern is the main square, where a vacancy is to be actively addressed. "We have to develop new plans to combat this vacancy and also significantly improve the infrastructure, such as the often dilapidated streets and internet care," he said.
Another important topic that Riedlsperger appeals is security. To do this, he thinks loudly about the reintroduction of a city police. He also wants Deutschlandsberg to become more active in the field of tourism and learn from role models such as Stainz or Eibiswald. "It is often asked how we want to finance it all. There are clear answers for this: We have to check our expenses, operate active company settlement and develop innovative projects to call up funding," said the freshly baked city party chairman.
The financial situation in Germany is also a positive point compared to other communities. With one per capita financial debt ratio of 873 euros, the city takes second place in the district. This opens up potential for investments, emphasized Riedlsperger and announced that it will visit other communities in Styria in the coming weeks to look at their strategies and projects.
The new board has been determined and includes the following members: Gunther Riedlsperger (city party chairman), Sarah Kleindienst, Gerda Lichtberger, Reinhard Brandstätter and Gerhard Reinisch as deputy, Leopold Strobl as financial officer and many other committed members who devote themselves to various departments.
political cooperation as a key to success
The motto "design instead of manage" is decisive for the political course in Germany, Riedlsperger continues. More democracy in the local council and stronger participation of all municipal councils should not only promote political culture, but also fresh ideas and initiatives.
The city party conference was also accompanied by State Councilor Werner Amon, who highlighted the importance of stable values in Styria. Amon said that the impending elections on November 24th are decisive for the future of the federal state. He emphasized that the commissioning of the Koralbahn in particular is of great importance for the district at the end of 2025 and also opens up new economic opportunities.
The Styrian People's Party under Riedlsperger is therefore in a dynamic change. With clear goals and a committed team at his side, the new chairman wants to bring a breath of fresh air to the politics of Germany.
