Stau-alarm for the holiday weekend: You have to avoid these streets!

This holiday, May 27, 2025, is faced with a challenge all of Austria: increased traffic and numerous roadblocks influence mobility in the cities and on the highways. The statutory holiday on Thursday attracts many travelers who want to use the days off for short breaks and excursions. This situation is further tightened by several major events.

The following streets are particularly affected:

  • Westakobahn (A1)
  • Ostautobahn (A4)
  • Southeast Tangent (A23)

A serious construction site on the A23 in the knot Prater area ensures longer delays, while construction work on the Tauern Autobahn (A10) between Golling and throwing also leads to traffic jams. There is also considerable backlog on the Fernpassstraße (B179).

major events and their effects

As part of the extended weekend, several significant events take place. The Red Bull Erzbergrodeo is expected to move many visitors between May 29 and June 1st. This high number of visitors will significantly burden the traffic situation on site.

In addition, the Upper Austria bike tour, which takes place from Thursday to Sunday, leads to further locks. The main square and neighboring roads in Linz are affected on Thursday, while on Friday a stage from Eferding to Ried im Innkreis will be severely burdened with the federal highways B130, B141 and B143. On Saturday and Sunday, further cycling events will follow with closures that affect the routes between Bad Schallerbach and Aigen-Schlägl and from St. Florian/Asten to Hutterer Höss.

Another event that can lead to delays is the Narcissus Festival in the Salzkammergut, which is celebrated from May 29th to June 1. The center of Bad Aussee is closed several times during this time, and new one -way regulations can be expected in the surrounding area.

Stammfahr on highways and federal roads

The high travel volume not only brings cities to a standstill, there are also considerable dust loads on the highways. According to the ÖAMTC , the situation is particularly critical on the following routes:

  • A1: Linz node - Enns
  • A4: Knot Schwechat - Fishamend
  • A10: Golling tunnel construction site - throw
  • B179: Catching area throughout the course
  • B145/B320: Region of the Narcissus Festival

The road users are urgently asked to adjust to longer travel times and, if necessary, to choose alternative routes. The series of events in combination with holiday travel traffic has the potential to make the initial situation considerably more difficult. Further information about the current traffic situation can be called up on the ÖAMTC website.
