Stau-alarm! Pentecost weekend brings chaos on the highways!
The ÖAMTC expects an above -average volume of traffic on Pentecost weekend. Already on Thursday evening and Friday there will be initial delays on the transit routes to the south. These traffic jams can be mainly caused by construction sites. The main congestion point will be on the Tauern Autobahn (A10) between Golling and throwing, where the longest traffic jams are forecast on Saturday.
In a comprehensive analysis, the ÖAMTC emphasizes that the desire to travel remains unbroken despite increasing prices. Popular holiday countries are Italy and Croatia. The traffic jams are expected primarily on the routes listed below:
Hauptebandlecke
- A1, West Autobahn: border position Walserberg, greater Salzburg area, construction site Asten - Linz.
- A2, Süd Autobahn: construction site Gleisdorf.
- A4, Ost Autobahn: Knot Prater-Schwechat, border office Nickelsdorf.
- A8, Innkreis Autobahn: Grenzstelle Suben.

The police will increasingly monitor travel and excursion traffic from Friday to Tuesday. The focus is on accident -prone routes and popular excursion destinations. The aim of the "Action Safe" is to reduce the number of accidents on the Pentecost weekend of the previous year in 446 traffic accidents with personal injury and a death.
traffic safety and tips
The ÖAMTC and the police advise a careful driving style. In particular, speed and alcohol limits should be observed. "Never drive about your own circumstances" and adhere to the safety distance are important points that should be taken into account in road traffic.
Another aspect are the expected high waiting times at the border crossings, such as on the Salzburg-Walserberg or Kufstein-Kiefersfelden. At the Drasenhofen border crossing, waiting time will be expected on Friday at least one hour. Cutlies also expect traffic jams in front of Nickelsdorf, Kittsee and playing field for the return trip on Whit Monday.
The ÖAMTC mutorator Herbert Thaler will be present on the Tauern motorway on Saturday to report on the current traffic situation. In addition, the ÖAMTC for members in the EU area offers a new service in addition to Austria: online doctor talks that are organized by the ÖAMTC.
For current information on the traffic situation, interested travelers can use the service of the ÖAMTC for traffic service, which is available at www.oeastc.at/verkehrsservice/ In summary, it can be said that the upcoming Pentecost weekend could not only be a major challenge for travelers, but also for the traffic authorities who do everything they can to make traffic as fluid as possible.
