Steel construction prices 2025: Innovation and excellence from Austria!

Graz, Österreich - On May 22, 2025, the 34th Austrian Stahlbau Day took place in Graz, in which the winners of the Austrian Steel Building Prize 2025 were announced. A total of 21 projects submitted were evaluated by a specialist jury. The awards aim to present the expertise and the performance of the Austrian steel construction.

In the 'Building Building' category, the project "Turmbau Bauhaus-Archiv, Museum für Design Berlin" by Zeman & Co GmbH was chosen as the winner. The jury praised the technical precision and the innovative and poetic use of steel. In the 'Infrastructure' category, the "U81 Stadtbahnbrücke over the Nordstern, Düsseldorf", which was submitted by MCE GmbH. Here the jurors emphasized the design and execution -technical challenges.

In addition, recognition prices were awarded. In the special category "Lightness with Stahl", the Helix office and hotel building in Salzburg, submitted by Herbrich Consult ZT GmbH and Metallica, received an award. The Bog Crane 1+2 project in Estonia, submitted by Bollinger and Grohmann ZT GmbH, was honored for the special category "CI by steel masts".

Another highlight of the event was the award of the Austrian Steel Building Award for Students 2025, which is intended to support innovative and experimental projects in architecture, civil engineering and art. A total of 53 submissions were recorded, from which five winners and two recognition were selected. This price is awarded every two years and took place for the tenth time in 2025.

At the same time, the price of the German steel construction, which has been awarded every two years since 1972, is also awarded by the construction steel. This price focuses on steel architecture and is aimed at architects and architectural communities. The competition in the autumn of an unera years evaluates buildings that are a maximum of three years old and have the symbiosis of architecture and construction. The jury pays particular attention to aspects such as constructive sophistication and urban integration.

For the upcoming award in 2024, which will take place again after a four-year break due to the Corona pandemic, the submission period between September 1 and October 31, 2023. The special prize of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, for construction and home (BMI), the sustainable and resource-friendly steel architecture is particularly worth mentioning.

The prices of the German steel construction not only include the main prize, but also the engineering award, which is aimed at engineers, as well as the sponsorship award, which is aimed at the offspring. These awards reflect the different skills within the industry and promote innovations and sustainable practices in steel architecture.

The Austrian Steel Construction Association, which represents around 100 members from various areas of steel construction, is managed as a association within the meaning of the Austrian Association Act. The aim of the diverse awards is to illustrate the relevance and dynamics of steel construction projects for the future.
