Fuel prices rise despite falling crude oil prices - what does the minister say?
The high fuel prices at the Austrian petrol stations are currently the focus of the political debate. FPÖ general secretary Michael Schledlitz has practiced sharp criticism of consumer protection minister Korinna Schumann and demands a clear commitment to the exorbitant prices that consumers have to pay. The development is particularly depressing that despite a decline in crude oil prices by about 20 percent since the beginning of the year, fuel prices have not been reduced. In addition, the dollar is lost in value compared to the euro, and yet the fuel prices remain at a record level.
Schledlitz describes the current situation as a “rip -off” of consumers. In a parliamentary request, the minister demands answers to the question of why this inactivity is tolerated by the government. He calls for an immediate reduction in prices and clear statements about pricing in Austria. The FPÖ criticizes that the state benefits from the high prices: the state receives considerable income from mineral oil tax, sales tax and CO2 prize.
urgent need for action required
The FPÖ also affects the traffic light government in the discussion and accuses it of not acting in the interests of the citizens. The daily tank process is financially heavily burdened by many families, which particularly emphasizes Schledlitz. In the current framework conditions, he sees clear risks for consumers and the competitiveness of the market, which is due to the information of the SPIEGEL
The cartel office has also found considerable competitive risks in the field of petrol and diesel prices. These nourished the concerns about a fair pricing and make it clear that the minister's energetic action is urgently needed.
