Solar power for Austria: New law brings change for PV systems!
The discussion about photovoltaic systems in Austria has taken on the journey through the new government. The abolition of the tax exemption, which previously favored solar power generators, is particularly explosive. According to Krone+, the Austrians will increasingly rely on the power of the sun and invest in solar systems, while other municipality still resist the environmentally friendly technology. Despite this trend, there are new legal changes that have an impact on the feed -in tariff and the handling of solar power.
A crucial point are the changes that have been in force since February 1, 2025, such as Spiegel.de The feed -in tariff, i.e. the amount, received the operator for electricity fed into the network was reduced by one percentage point. For new systems that are connected to the network from this deadline, this remuneration rate is now 7.95 cents per kilowatt hour for systems up to ten kilowatts and 6.88 cents for larger systems. Solar system operators are also confronted with new requirements: Intelligent measuring systems must be installed in order to regulate the feed-in, especially on days when electricity production exceeds consumption.
Additional challenges by the Solarspitzen Act
The newly introduced solar tip law has an important impact on the feed -in of solar power on strongly sunny days. In the case of negative stock exchange power prices, feed -in tariffs are temporarily exposed to, which means that operators are more required to use their own electricity themselves. This regulation is intended to help avoid overloading the power grid. The requirements regarding registration in the central register for units and component certificates (Zerez) are also important; All solar systems must now be registered there in order to be approved.
Despite the challenges resulting from the falling feed-in tariff and the new legal regulations, there is potential for self-consumption: operators can benefit from intelligent energy management systems and the installation of electricity storage. These technologies make it possible to efficiently use the generated solar power and to minimize the financial burden by feeding into the network.
