Heavy traffic controls in Vorarlberg: over 250 violations revealed!
In the week from May 19 to 23, 2025, the regional traffic department Vorarlberg carried out extensive heavy traffic controls in cooperation with the mobile test of ASFINAG. The aim of these measures was to check the traffic safety of older and poor vehicles. A total of 47 motor vehicles and trailers were checked. Over 250 violations could be found, 205 of which were documented technical violations. Furthermore, 48 violations regarding steering and rest periods as well as the load securing were recorded. Nineteen vehicles were shut down due to "danger" and security benefits of around 19,000 euros were raised by the police, as reported https://www.vol.at/landesweit-schwerpunktonrollen-der-verkehrpoli/9429695).
A particularly questionable case occurred in a Polish tractor -trailer, which was equipped with several serious defects: a lack of tire profile on three wheels, an ineffective operating brake on one side of the drive axis, damaged trailer tires and a defective parking brake were documented. In addition to a separate focus on May 23, these controls were carried out on May 23, in which addictive inserted drivers were checked in Bregenz and Dornbirn. At the controls in Vorarlberg, ten police officers and a police doctor were deployed who were able to achieve the following results: five driving license acceptance (four because of drug use and one due to alcohol), four clinical examinations as well as various advertisements according to the addictive law and due to technical defects. An advertisement for falsification of documents and several other traffic offenses were also found, while 20 organ mandates were issued directly on site due to other violations. These measures to ensure traffic safety are part of a comprehensive approach in several federal states. For example, from January 29 to February 2, 2024, similar controls were carried out on the "Ludergraben-Ost" motorway parking lot in Bavaria. The traffic police were involved in these controls, several police inspections and other organizations. 141 vehicles were checked, 80 traffic violations were found and 60 fine procedures were initiated. There were also two arrested persons and investigations against seven road users, as reported.
The security measures are supported by technological innovations. On February 22, 2024, Interior Minister Gerhard Karner handed over 63 new laptops to the Lower Austria state transport department, which are equipped with modern evaluation software. This software enables manipulations on the digital control device to be recognized when driving past, which allows the quick identification of violations of the steering and rest periods. Interior Minister Karner emphasized the challenges of the widely branched road network in Lower Austria, where over 83,000 heavy traffic controls were carried out in 2023. Of this, more than 25,700 controls in Lower Austria, which constitutes 30 percent of the Austria -wide controls and led to more than 224,000 and guessed violations, as [BMI more results of the controls
technological progress to improve traffic safety
These comprehensive controls and measures are necessary to increase traffic safety and to avoid accidents due to fatigue or technical defects. They show how important the cooperation between different authorities and the use of modern technology are to ensure security on the streets.
