Shock in Steindorf: 20-year-old rest with 151 km/h through 80s zone!

A short excursion ended in a dramatic way for a 20-year-old driver from Villach on Sunday, April 28, 2025. The young man was flashed at the B94 Ossiacher Bundesstraße in the municipal area of Steindorf am Ossiacher See at a speed of 151 km/h at a speed 80 zone. He was on his way to Feldkirchen with his mother's vehicle and had significantly exceeded the permissible top speed. The Bodensdorf police and additional forces from the Feldkirchen police were finally able to stop the car.

The driver confessed to his misconduct during the control. The authorities act quickly and immediately dismissed his driver's license. He was also reported to the responsible authority. According to Austrian law, the young driver face fines of up to 5,000 euros and a multi -month driver's license withdrawal.

The danger of young drivers

This incident throws a light on the dangers that come from young drivers. According to a study by ADAC accident research, 18 to 24-year-olds cause more traffic accidents than older road users. Although the number of young drivers who have crashed has dropped in recent years, they remain a high -risk group. Statistics show that young drivers are more than twice as often involved in accidents.

In the analysis of 18,000 data records of the ADAC air rescue between 2005 and 2020, it can be seen that 29% of the accidents in which young drivers are involved are sole accidents. In comparison, the value for older drivers is only 18%. A common cause is excessive speed, followed by a lack of experience, involuntary change of trace and agreement from the street. The data situation that indicates that 76% of the accidents of young drivers take place on agricultural and federal roads is also worrying.

statistics and prevention

The region around the Ossiacher See is regularly monitored by the police to prevent dangerous traffic situations. This focus on safety is necessary because the dangers that are from young drivers are evident. The causes also include factors such as the average age of the vehicles of this age group, which is almost 1.5 years above the other driver, as well as the fact that 49% of the accident -damaged vehicles of young drivers are 11 years or older.

The problem of a lack of straps increases the situation: young drivers are more often strapped, which leads to serious injuries in the event of an accident. However, the trend that the proportion of accidents caused by young drivers - from over a third in 2008 to only every fifth in 2019 - shows that certain preventive measures take effect, such as the “Accompanied driving from 17” and an absolute alcohol ban for beginners.

Overall, however, it is hoped that such incidents as that of the young Villacher will not only become a personal lesson, but also serve as a warning for other young drivers to take the risks in road traffic seriously.
