With peace march against violence: Action days started in Pinzgau

The campaign "16 days against violence against women and girls" takes place worldwide from November 25th to December 10th and aims to draw attention to the continuing problem of violence against women and girls. On November 15, 2024, a press conference was organized in Saalfelden to both address the current situation and to inform about the upcoming events as part of this campaign. Barbara Thöny, SPÖ member of the state parliament and social spokeswoman, said that it was very sad that this topic still has to be in focus.

In the course of the conversation, important statistics were presented: Up to this point, there have been 26 female female in Austria this year. Kathrin Gimpl from the Pinzgau women's shelter reported that around 40 heavy attempts at murder and violence were also recorded. These alarming numbers underline how omnipresent violence against women in society.

Enlightenment and prevention as central topics

The experts, including Wolfgang Czerny from the men's world and Daniela Zika, district inspector in Saalfelden, emphasized the importance of prevention and education. Kathrin Gimpl made it clear that the women's shelter actively organizes workshops to sensitize the population. Schools such as the HBLW Saalfelden and the Borg Mittersill in particular show great interest in the offers and repeatedly ask inquiries to learn more about the work of the women's shelter.

Czerny reported on a new project that has been running since September last year and is particularly concerned with the protection of mothers. This is done as part of the 16-day campaign and is intended to draw attention to the challenges with which mothers are confronted with whose sons are violent or show conspicuous behavior.

"The police are entitled to issue a ban on or to ban.

Another important topic is support and advice, which is offered in particular mothers. Czerny explained that in the project duration so far, five married couples have already contacted the men's worlds, since they are concerned about the willingness to violate their sons. The aim is to strengthen the self -esteem of mothers and offer alternative educational methods that could help families prevent violence.

Help for the perpetrator and victim protection

Revier inspector Zika, who has been involved in privacy for several years, also relies on solutions in which both perpetrators and victims are addressed. She reported cases in which endangering people voluntarily used further advice after a mandatory perpetrator advice. This shows that the perpetrators are often ready to deal with their behavior and seek help.

Overall, this initiative illustrates how important it is to continuously address violence against women and girls. The numerous commitments, workshops and events in Pinzgau show that both education and prevention are central elements in the fight against this type of violence.
