Alpine kitchen in the spotlight: culinary festival games in Zell am See

Austria and the Alpine region are evident as emerging culinary destinations, and this was impressively demonstrated in the festival of the Alpine Kitchen in 2024. On September 30, 2024, some of the best chefs in the region gathered in Zell am See-Kaprun to discuss current topics of gastronomy and to present innovative culinary approaches.

The event was under the direction of the renowned top chef Andreas Döllerer, who, together with the tourism representatives of Salzburger Land and Zell am See-Kaprun, designed a varied program that spoiled the guests with delicious experiences. This year, the three-time Michelin star carrier Sven Wassmer, who runs the Memories restaurant in Bad Ragaz, was also involved. He delighted the audience with his "Modern Alpine Cuisine".

Culinary discussions and challenges

A central topic of the event was the culinary positioning of Austria and the opportunities that the Alpine region offers generous travelers. Experts such as Astrid Stharnig-Staudinger from Austria and the well-known Salzburg chefs Karl and Rudi Obauer, both of whom contributed to discussion with their expertise. The young chef Klemens Gold also put fresh ideas for discussion.

Another highlight was the lively generation talk, to which Hanna and Hannes Müller from the Restaurant Trout Weissensee as well as Franziska Zopf and Dominik Edlinger von Seesushi in Strobl were invited. These lively discussions illuminated topics such as the vegan cooking apprenticeship and their future, which led to different opinions in the creative process and resulted in profitable discussions.

In addition, the traditional Alpine Lunch was a highlight of the festival. Here young talents such as the excellent Viktoria Fahlinger (Female Chef of the Year 2024) from Kufstein and Florian Zillner from the Flos Restaurants in Zell am See presented their skills. This cooking show once again demonstrated that the Alpine Kitchen Festival has developed into a significant event that has a wide radiance beyond the borders of the Salzburg region and offers essential platforms for gastronomy, agriculture and tourism.

The event not only illustrated the outstanding personalities and products of the Alpine region, but also the challenges that the industry faces. These topics will continue to be important in the future to further develop and promote the culinary diversity of the region.
