An unforgettable day of action: 400 children discover agriculture in the Lungau

In the Lungau, a remarkable day of action took place recently on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Salzburg Chamber of Agriculture, which was supposed to arouse interest in agriculture among the youngest citizens. This event was initiated by chamber secretary Andreas Kaiser and met with an overwhelming response because 400 elementary school students had registered. This illustrates how strongly curiosity and the commitment of the young generation are in relation to agricultural issues.

The day of action was organized in cooperation with the district farmers and committed farmers from the region and the agricultural technical school in Tamsweg. The chairman of the district farmers' chamber, Johann Schitter, emphasizes: "There is no better place for a visit to agriculture than the agricultural technical school." Here the children should discover modern agriculture and understand how it works in everyday life. Different stations ensured a varied program, including handlasses, shaking butter and dealing with strokes. In addition, the children were able to roll siloballs together, which brought them closer to the physical work that is the order of the day in agriculture.

a day full of discoveries

As a special highlight, the young participants were cared for with tasty liver chemplings, prepared by students from the technical school. This was not only a culinary experience, but also an opportunity to feel the school's attachment to local agriculture. Mathias Gappmaier, director of the agricultural technical school, proudly commented: "It is a great honor for us to receive 400 children from all over the district here. This shows the appreciation of farmers for our educational work."

After this educational and interactive morning, the day was completed with an official celebration in the evening at the agricultural technical school, which focused on the sheep roasting. This event formed the crowning glory of the anniversary celebrations of the Chamber of Agriculture, which not only recognized the achievements of the chamber, but also the important role of agriculture in Lungau.
