Future of Frohnburgstadel: Ideas for the renovation wanted!
The historic Frohnburgstadel building, located on Hellbrunner Allee in Salzburg, has been closed since April 2024 due to severe structural defects. A renovation of the important building, which was built in 1769, could cost up to one million euros. This information comes from a current message from the city. Future possible uses of the building are still uncertain, which is why the city administration calls the citizens: inside to submit ideas. Interested parties can send their suggestions directly to Vice Mayor Kay-Michael Dankl (KPÖ Plus).
The Frohnburgstadel has a long history. Originally used as a farm building for the nearby Frohnburg Castle, he served various purposes over the years, but was recently unused because the structural defects needed a restoration. Building protection has already been lifted in favor of potential renovation in the past, which could pave the way for future usage ideas.
structural conditions and access
With two floors - a ground floor and a floor - the Stadel has several rooms and a large roof hall. This hall with approx. 325 square meters could be used for cultural events or as a gallery. However, apart from warehouse purposes, every use is expected to require special permits. It is also important to note that due to its location in the grassland, the city does not allow additional car or heavy traffic, which could affect future use.
The building is accessible via the Hellbrunner Allee on foot or by bike. Due to the nearby Alpine road, there is also a connection to public transport. Before the final decision on use, however, details on the supply of electricity and water must be clarified.
The fact that a demolition of the Frohnburgstadel was discussed years ago shows how critical the situation seems to be. So far, the city has been preserved, but now there is an urgent need for action to ensure its preservation and to integrate it into urban life sustainably. The city of Salzburg has recognized the importance of dialogue with the citizens: inside and would like to incorporate their ideas into the decision -making process. Further information on the situation is in a report on www.salzburg24.at to be found.
