Traffic pollution and delivery: The dispute over the Interspar in Bischofshofen

in Bischofshofen, in the south of Austria, a large construction project is criticized. The planned interspar hypermarket is already causing lively discussions and fears of a possible traffic chaos. While state and municipal representatives assure that the infrastructure for increasing traffic is prepared, many residents doubt these statements and fear negative effects.

The project includes more than 40,000 articles, which, however, are not to be delivered via the busy Gasteiner Straße, but by Luttersbachgasse. This street leads directly through a residential area and could therefore bring additional loads for the residents.

rising traffic load and skepticism of the residents

According to expert estimates, the new market could flow into the already heavily frequented traffic flows through the new market. These forecasts have been examined in several traffic reports, but the results are inconsistent. While two reports predict an overload of the street infrastructure, a third calculation method provided more optimistic figures, which encouraged political decision -makers to give the project green light.

This decision is not without controversy. The green club chairman Simon Heilig-Hofbauer warns that the measures to avoid a traffic bottleneck should only come after the market has been completed. He sees this critically and describes it as a "start -up in a traffic overload".

political and public reactions

The office of the responsible state council, Martin Zauner, defends the project and claims that all aspects have been extensively checked. Nevertheless, the resistance of the "Greens" remains that indicate the need for environmentally friendly planning. The planned settlement is defamed by such politicians as a "preventive policy" that would be directed against the interests of citizens.

Another argument against the project refers to the accumulation of commercial markets, which should be contradicted by the spatial planning principles. Critics of the changeover fear that this could endanger the diversity of the building structures. However, these concerns were depressed by the municipality by referring to existing projects that promote mixing of living and trading uses in the city center.

Currently there is still no concrete information about the construction of the Interspar market, and the savings group is covered with regard to the ongoing clarifications. The spokeswoman for the Salzburg Spar Group, Nicole Berkmann, does not announce any details of the allegations or the delivery modalities and refers to the ongoing official procedures.
