Self -defense for sex workers: a unique workshop in Salzburg

In Salzburg, self -defense courses for sex workers recently took place, an innovative project that is intended to strengthen the security and self -confidence of the participants. These workshops, which were carried out for the first time in this country, aim to give women the necessary tools in order to better defend themselves in potentially dangerous situations.

Christine Nagl, the initiator of these courses, explains the background of the project. Together with the experienced self -defense trainer Sandra Grünbart, they visited three brothels - two in Salzburg city and one in the Pongau. The women were invited to take part in these free workshops during their working hours, which underlines the flexibility and accessibility of the offer.

First steps in self -defense

The courses were intended as a safe space in which the participants can learn to expand their physical skills and learn from each other. Not only is the technology of the struggle convey, but also how to build self -confidence and set limits. These skills are particularly valuable in a profession that is often shaped by stigmatization and uncertainty.

The women reported the positive effect of the workshop. After training, many felt strengthened and able to defend themselves better. "It is important that we can defend ourselves when we feel uncomfortable," said a participant. The feedback was mostly positive, which indicates that such offers are not only necessary, but also very welcome.

The decision to start with these workshops is an important step towards more security for sex workers. The Initiative shows how important it is to raise awareness of self -defense in this industry and to give women the opportunity to take their own safety in hand.
