Together on the Gaisberg: Expedition on the national holiday

On October 26, the second expedition Gaisberg of the year will take place, and a lot of exciting activities are waiting for the participants. On this national holiday, both locals and visitors have the opportunity to discover the Salzburg local mountain on three different, varied routes. Mayor Bernhard Auinger will also be there this year and emphasize how important awareness of nature is on our doorstep.

"This will be a very special day for everyone who is hungry for movement who feel like adventure in nature," says Auinger. The “Expedition Gaisberg” project has set itself the goal of bringing recreational athletes, hikers and nature lovers together and making the experience of nature even more tangible.

a versatile supporting program

A colorful supporting program is planned for October 26 that offers fun for the whole family. At the start and at the intermediate stations there will be opportunities for refreshment so that the participants can recharge your batteries after each hiking stage. The right highlight then takes place on the top of the Gaisberg. New this year is the specially furnished Bambini start, which is specially intended for the youngest hikers and leads from the Zistelalm to the Gaisbergspitze.

At around 1,300 meters high, the brave hikers not only expect a fantastic view, but also entertainment in the form of stretching units, music and gastronomic delicacies. As a reward, there is also a certificate for all successful participants. Depending on your mood, the descent can then be done either on foot or comfortably with the Gaisbergbus.

starting points and routes

The kick -off event begins at 10 a.m. in Gnigl or Parsch, while the Bambini Route starts at the Zistelalm from 11 a.m. The individual starting points are listed here:

  • Gnigler Kühbergsteig: Entrance Gnigler Park, intersection Eichstraße/Mühlstraße, 5020 Salzburg (next to Eichstraße 53)
  • Zistel Trasse: Ludwig-Schmederer-Platz 2, 5020 Salzburg
  • Bambini Route: Start at Zistelalm, via path no. 15 to Gaisbergspitze

The special plus: If you take part in the expedition and wear a "moving city" gate bracelet, use the trip in the Gaisbergbus (line 151) free of charge. There is only one rule: just get there and hike! The event takes place in every weather and is free for everyone.

The “Moving City” project aims to develop Salzburg into a large fitness park. It should create versatile and accessible movement options in public space and make them visible to everyone. The orientation is clear: more movement and activity in everyday life.
