Women's life: an honest look at the aging of women

After four years of hard work by Rochus Gratzfeld and his partner Sonja Schiff, the book “Frauenleben” has been published, which is devoted to an often taboo topic: the aging of women. The project, which not only took longer than expected, aims to redesign the perspective on women and their aging. A team of talented photographers was also involved in this ambitious project.

As Sonja Schiff emphasizes as a gender scheme, aging in society is often negatively presented. Women are under pressure to appear youthful and fold -free in order to be accepted in public. With “women's life”, this often one -sided narrative is counteracted. The book shows women who were born between 1945 and 1992 in 33 impressive black and white photographs in its authentic form-unadulterated and unretouched.

insights in personal life stories

Every picture is more than just a photography; It is accompanied by the individual stories of the women depicted. These stories tell of the different facets of the fraus, body awareness and the challenges of aging. The photos were taken in meaningful places for the women themselves. Gratzfeld and ship were supported by the photographer Yasemin Uyar, Sabine Kristmann-Gros and Kerstin Kuntze. Schiff describes the recordings as "pure and unadorned", a rarity in today's media landscape.

The personal stories of women give deep insights into their emotions and experiences. Changing feelings of self -doubt, fears, but also gratitude and reconciliation with your own body come up. One of the women shares their vision of "being" at the present moment and emphasizes the importance of accepting themselves as you are. Another woman reports: "If you meet with bald head and without breast in the mirror and still say: 'Hello beauty', then you know that you will make it."

financing through crowdfunding

The implementation of the book project was a challenge due to the lack of public funding. Therefore, a crowdfunding campaign was started, which ultimately offered the necessary financial support. The result is a 120-page work that was published in the Magas publishing house, a publisher that devotes itself to female physicality from a feminist perspective. The book is now available in bookstores and online and invites you to think again about the Frausein.
