Demonstration in Salzburg: Citizens defend themselves against S-Link extension
In the old town of Salzburg, around 100 opponents of the planned extension of the underground local railway S-Link gathered on Wednesday morning. This demonstration took place shortly before a decisive meeting of the Salzburg municipal council and attracted attention.
The location of the demo was the old market, not far from the town hall. Some farmers from the southern room of Salzburg were also involved in the event who brought tractors. Their main concern is the concern for the possible effects of the S-Link project on their agricultural areas, as they fear that their plots could be cut into several parts by the rails. In addition, there is the possibility of expropriation of agricultural areas of several hectares in the room, which could threaten the livelihood of many farmers.
important decision making is about
Another central point of the protest was the upcoming citizen survey, in which the local railway is coordinated by the sometimes underground extension. This vote is scheduled for November 10th. Around 250,000 eligible voters are called to give their vote in the city of Salzburg and in the adjacent regions of Tennengau and Flachgau. This could make the decision about this important infrastructure project.
The opponents of the S-Link expansion drew attention to their concerns with banners and posters. The anxious question of how this project could affect the environment and local agriculture is in the room. The demonstration should not only make the opinion of the opponents visible, but also put pressure on the decision -makers, especially before the upcoming coordination.
The topic is of great importance for many citizens and could have a lasting impact on future transport links and the structure of regional agriculture. The demonstration therefore has the immediate purpose of drawing attention to these possible consequences and stimulating a broad public discussion. The next few months will be crucial for the further steps regarding the S-Link project, and the upcoming citizen survey will offer clarifying answers.
