Billa restricts delivery area: Focus on Vienna and Click & Collect

Billa, the well -known supermarket chain, has decided to severely restrict your house deliveries. From December, the company will only offer its deliveries in Vienna and in certain areas of Lower Austria and Burgenland. This measure was carried out by the headquarters in Wr. Neudorf (Mödling district) announced, emphasizing that the storage rooms in Vienna can be reached "a third of all customers in Austria".

The decision to reduce the delivery wheel is above all a reaction to the changed market conditions. According to David Renker, the Billa-Onlina leader, the demand for food deliveries in rural areas will not be negative, but it does not show any growing potential that could be compared to the urban space. "We just don't see the same growth potential here as in Vienna," said Renker in an interview with the "Kurier". In order to double the online turnover in the next three years despite these restrictions, Billa plans to rely on the "Click & Collect" model and the collaboration with the delivery service Foodora.

new delivery areas and online strategies

From December, the delivery wheel from Mistelbach in the north of Vienna to Wiener Neustadt in the south and from St. Pölten in the west to Bruck on the Leitha in the east will extend. For many deliverers, especially those who work on external companies, this decision could be disappointing. At the same time, however, Billa will expand the service in urban areas. In cities such as Vienna, Graz, Linz, Traun and Innsbruck, a Foodora delivery service will continue to be available for smaller orders. From November 26, deliveries in Salzburg are also possible by Foodora, supported by the practical order via the corresponding app.

The potential for the "Click & Collect" service is particularly emphasized. Here, customers can pre -order their purchases online and then collect them at special pick -up stations in the branches. By the end of the year, Billa plans to set up its own switches and parking spaces for this type of collection in all Billa-Plus branches. This strategy should make it easier for customers to save time and still benefit from the Billa offers.

Billa is known for clinking to the online food trade market early on. The digitization of retail started in 2015 with a comprehensive expansion of the online shop, followed by the introduction of Austrian house deliveries. In 2017, the first own camp was opened for online orders in Vienna, and another followed in 2020. Especially during Corona pandemic, as Lockdowns and restrictions, shopping on site was very limited, the online trade experienced a massive boost. However, this trend has changed a lot with the end of pandemic and the effects of inflation due to the Ukraine War.

While delivery to the surrounding area is restricted, Billa remains optimistic about the future of online trading. The competitiveness in the food sector increasingly depends on the innovative solutions that providers such as Billa can provide in order to offer customers a pleasant shopping experience.
