New community center in Maishofen: A milestone for culture and community
The new community center in Maishofen recently opened its doors and was inaugurated with a solemn act. The municipality, which financed the approximately ten million euro new building, is taking modernization and sustainability with this step. Of this sum, around 1.1 million euros were funded by the country's municipal compensation fund (GAF), which underlines the importance of the project.
At the opening, numerous residents took part in the ceremony, which shows the connection of the community with this new center. The modern building, which now offers eleven employees a job, houses a new parish library with over 5,000 media, a multifunctional event and exhibition room as well as a wedding room. A special highlight is the "Anton Faistauer Window", which presents works by the famous painter from the region.
funding from the municipal equalization fund
The funding of 1.1 million euros from the GAF shows how important regional support for such projects is. Deputy Governor Stefan Schnöll emphasized the relevance of the fund for the Salzburg municipalities: "The GAF is the‘ regional funding tool for Salzburg's municipalities. " In the past, numerous projects from different areas such as schools and fire brigade houses have already been supported.
Mayor Stefan Aglassinger looks back on the construction work that started about a year and a half ago. The satisfactory circumstances of the old administrative building no longer represented suitable requirements, which ultimately required the new building. Between August 1 and 2, 2024, the move to the new rooms took place, and the 5th August marked the first official working day in the new center.
Aglassinger emphasized that all feedback from the community workers was consistently positive. The old building, which is now being converted, will soon accommodate a farm shop on the ground floor, while offices are rented out on the upper floors.
a center for community and culture
The focus of the new community center is on a sustainable building concept. An environmentally friendly solution was found with a wood-hybrid construction that comprises a concrete core, which also creates a pleasant indoor climate. Aglassinger explained that the choice of sustainable raw material wood was easy due to the positive effects on the indoor climate and the support of local companies.
The community center is designed as a place of exchange and encounter, which should be accessible to all generations. In the future, numerous events and cultural offers are planned. This will not only make the new community center a modern administrative center, but also a living center of social life in Maishofen.
