New life for Salzburg folk music: ORF studio awakens sounds!

Salzburg, Österreich - The celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Salzburg ORF studio are shaped by fresh sounds and new recording projects. The Ensemble Herz-G’song from Lungau, consisting of 25 talented young women, recently sang in the ORF tone studio. Contacted brass music bands and vocal groups take the opportunity to capture their art, which the ORF state director Waltraud Langer is finally made up for. "We have found that we don't have some chapels and choirs in the archive yet," she explains.

Working in a professional environment for the first time was an exciting challenge for many musicians. Peter Kainhofer, Kapellmeister of the Annaberg chapel, noticed the excited atmosphere in the studio: "I'm excited. As a Kapellmeister, I have never done that either." Florian Keuschnigg from the Almbachmusi was also enthusiastic, the studio atmosphere made it possible to repeat different pieces to perfection. The participation of the young Tanzlmusi from Tennengau ensured joy. "We were very pleased that we were allowed to accept this offer," said Keuschnigg.

traditional and modern sounds combined

The efforts of the ORF state studio to modernize the historical radio archive are in line with the respectful honor of the past. Historical sound recordings, many of them only fixed on old band formats or records, are revived by digital technologies. This update and enrichment of the archive is accompanied by the hope of a lively cultural landscape, which continues to not shy away from contemporary challenges.

like Ö1 , the State Studio Salzburg has been a center for the promotion of contemporary music. The priorities were set by significant recordings of experimental sounds that shape the development of the music scene in the region. For the anniversary, some of these valuable recordings are presented, which impressively demonstrate how closely modern and traditional music are connected.
