Singer Parastoo Ahmadi released after arrest by Iranian judiciary
Teheran, Iran - The Iranian singer Parastoo Ahmadi has regained her freedom after her arrest because of the violation of the Iranian dress code, in particular the missing headscarf. It became known publicly that Ahmadi will be released against a deposit of around 37,000 euros. The four members of their band were also released in the same matter. This information comes from reports from the newspaper "Ham Mihan", which also reported that the singer and her lawyer team appeared before the Tehran religious court to face the allegations.
consequences of a bold appearance
The event for the legal steps was a concert that took place on December 11 on the site of a traditional caravansry and was broadcast live on the Ahmadi YouTube channel. In this appearance, which took place without an audience, the singer did not wear a headscarf, which violates the strict regulations of Iran. These regulations, which have been in force since the Islamic Revolution in 1979, stipulate that women are only allowed to complete public appearances with one hidjab. A circumstance that is particularly resistant to the population, since more and more women question these rules, especially according to the massive protests in the country.
Iranian judiciary has declared that a process of violating “legal and religious standards” was initiated against the singer and her team. The situation around Ahmadi not only shows the difficult conditions for artists in Iran, but also reflects the growing phenomenon of resistance to the existing regulations, which was additionally fueled by the tragic death of Masha Amini in September 2022. Amini also died in police custody after she was arrested because of an alleged violation of the clothing regulations, and her history has moved many to stand up for more freedom, which Ahmadi also expresses in her music, as reported by orf.at .
