Rescue pavilions of the Hietzing Clinic: This is how the future will be secured!
On June 30, 2025, the health city councilor Peter Hacker attended the construction site of the Hietzing Clinic in order to examine the progress of the renovation measures on three historical pavilions. These pavilions, which date from the early 20th century, were completed in June 2023, with the renovation work progressing quickly. The financial means for the comprehensive modernizations amount to 77 million euros, which are primarily used to adapt the pavilions to modern medical requirements. Press Vienna
The renovated pavilions 9, 13 and 14 are to be used for the central emergency room from 2026 and 2027, the Institute for Laboratory Medicine, the Institute for Nuclear Medicine and the 5th Medical Department. Work processes in the entrance area are also optimized to ensure improved organization. This is particularly important because the central emergency room in the Pavilion 13 is equipped with two shock rooms and a CT device in order to be able to start operating in 2026. clinic hietzing
future use of the pavilions
An important aspect of the renovation is that the listed pavilions are preserved in the long term. After completion of the new Hietzing Clinic, which is to be realized by 2039, the central emergency room as well as the laboratories and medical departments move into the new building. The central emergency room is expected to move to the new building complex in 2033, whereas the central laboratory and the Institute for Nuclear Medicine 2038 should follow. Until then, the historical pavilions are used temporarily. BBB Ingenieure
The engineering office BBB engineers has experience in the renovation of listed buildings and accompanies such projects from planning to building acceptance. This expertise is particularly valuable because real estate in need of renovation often places special requirements and the permits of the monument protection authority are necessary for many measures. The requirements for the renovation can significantly increase the costs and the effort compared to non -listed buildings.
The city of Vienna will decide on the future use of the pavilions, which will remain part of the Hietzing Clinic after moving the departments to the new buildings. The old buildings, which were temporarily used after the geriatric center was closed in 2015, should continue to be found and revitalized in the future in the future.
