Government is planning drastic changes in tenancy law - what can expect us?

A storm brews itself through rental legislation in Austria! According to Daniela Holzinger-Vogtenhuber, the chairwoman of the consumer protection association (VSV), the government parties ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS would like to make important changes in their new government program that could have a drastically affect the rights of tenants: inside. While the program promises numerous measures to strengthen consumer interests, the shortening of the limitation period in particular ensures the recovery of illegally increased rents from thirty to just five years. This could be the already weakened position of the tenants: further undermined, which would have shocking consequences. "Tenants: Often not dare to take rigid increases on the inside, for fear of their contracts," explains Holzinger-Vogtenhuber, which illustrates the explosiveness of the situation.

not enough! The energy costs are also the focus of the VSV. The organization demands that the area of remote and local heating are included in the state regulation. This is crucial, as in contrast to electricity and gas, there is no supervision, which can lead to potential abuses. "It is essential that price changes are clearly regulated," emphasizes Holzinger. The planned regulations should ensure that providers in their contracts provide exactly the circumstances under which they adapt their prices. This is necessary to protect consumers: from the inside from sudden and unjustified price increases and to keep basic care accessible to everyone, especially in times of rising prices.

urgent demands of consumer protectionists

The VSV makes it clear that consumers: inside are not allowed to suffer from increasing energy costs. Holzinger criticizes that the state's electricity allowance has artificially raised the prices and calls for direct support from the citizens: inside without the participation of the energy companies. The Supreme Court also ruled that double -collected fees for the connection of photovoltaic systems are illegal, which the network operators obliged to repay. The VSV announces that it is against grievances with new legitimation for association lawsuits in the energy sector after many price increases, which were nevertheless subsidized by the state.

The bare facts do not leave any room for discussions: the consumers: inside are urgently dependent on support, and the upcoming decisions of the coalition negotiators could decide on the future of countless households. Nobody can escape the consequences that could result from these planned changes. The consumers: on the inside must be vigilant!
