Police increase controls: safe from Pentecost!

The Whitsun weekend from June 6th to 10th, 2025 is at the corner and with it an increased traffic volume, such as ots. In coordination with traffic authorities, the police have announced increased traffic monitoring to increase security on the streets. This is done in particular on popular travel and excursion routes, whereby the focus is on motorcycle routes. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner emphasizes that these measures should guarantee protection for all road users.

The police are increasingly using police officers throughout Germany to check the speeders, jumper, and alcohol and drug drivers. In the run-up to the Pentecost weekend, an extensive equipment has already been prepared, including 2,500 emergency vehicles, 400 motorcycles, as well as numerous measuring and monitoring devices. The goal of this campaign entitled "Safe" is to reduce accidents and to significantly improve traffic safety.

forecasts for traffic jams and traffic density

The weather forecasts for the Pentecost weekend indicate strong traffic on German highways. ADAC and ACE expect long traffic jams, especially on the typical travel routes. Many federal states are not only free on Whit Monday, but also on Tuesday, which results in additional travel volume. Cars are particularly affected in the direction of the Alps, Mediterranean and North and Baltic Sea coast.

The main travel days are clearly defined. On Friday, June 6th, increased traffic jam activities will be expected from noon, especially about metropolitan areas such as Berlin and Munich. Saturday, June 7th, is viewed as the main day of travel, on which considerable delays can be expected from the early morning. Sunday is the calmest day with moderate traffic volume, while the return trip on Monday, June 9th, from noon, stores. Tuesday, June 10, will also be very frequented because many travelers want to use the extended holiday.

historical number of accidents and traffic safety

traffic safety has been decreasing for years, but the statistics from the Pentecost weekend in 2024 show an alarming balance: 446 traffic accidents with personal injury, 529 injuries and a death are recorded. The number of speeding was also high with over 54,000 complaints. In the context of the historical data, it can be seen that in 2023 a total of three deaths and four deaths were registered in traffic accidents in 2022. The decline in death in recent years is supported by Eurostat, which show a positive trend in traffic safety.

The police appeal to the personal responsibility of road users to adhere to the speed and alcohol mit, avoid drugs and pay attention to safety distances. In view of the expected traffic density and the possible traffic jams, it is important to plan enough time, break open early and to stay flexible in the travel planning.
