Pogacar dominates the mountain time trial: another stage victory in the Pyrenees!
Peyragudes, Frankreich - On July 18, 2025, Tadej Pogacar continued his triumphal march at the Tour de France. The defending champion confidently won the 10.9 kilometer mountain time trial from Loudenvielle to Peyragudes. With an impressive lead of 36 seconds to the Danish driver Jonas Vingegaard and 1:20 minutes ahead of his compatriot Primoz Roglic, Pogacar triumphed for the second time in a row. In this tour it is already its fourth stage win, which means that he is further expanding his title as the overall leader. The 26-year-old now leads with 4:07 minutes before Vingegaard in the overall ranking, while Remco Evenepoel from Belgium is in third place with a gap of 7:24 minutes.
Felix Gall, who has shown strong performance in the overall ranking, today took his current place 9 with tenth place in time trial. Against the background of the demanding 13th stage, which has a height difference of 650 meters, Gall is satisfied with his performance, but remains behind the expectations.
powerful competition
pogacar showed an impressive shape during the time driving and expressed after the race: "I am super happy. I started very well and gave everything to the finish." His dominant performance shows that he is still in top form in the third week of the tour. Vingegaard and Roglic, both of whom are considered serious competitors, had to give up again and fought for the places behind Pogacar.
Florian Lipowitz from Germany took fourth place today and has created a good springboard for the overall ranking. Lipowitz, just six seconds behind Evenepoel, is full of zest for action and, after the race, stated that the performance is a positive incentive for the upcoming stages. The time trial world champion Evenepoel ended the race in twelfth place and lost a decisive time.
foresight and challenges
The coming 14th stage will lead over 182.6 kilometers from Pau to the mountain clan in the Luchon superbagner ski area on Saturday with challenging height differences. The maximum incline in the time trial was already 16 percent, and with the COL du Tourmalet, the drivers are facing another demanding increase. It will be exciting to see whether Pogacar can further expand its dominance or whether the other drivers are developing new strategies to endanger his leadership.
Overall, the Tour de France 2025 has so far shown an impressive level of competition in which a lot is at stake. With a still open route and high sporting intensity, the race remains exciting.
