Austrians fear the Third World War: survey shows explosive fears!
A current survey shows that the fears in the Austrian population are strongly pronounced in terms of a possible third of World War, which could be triggered by various geopolitical tensions. According to a survey by the opinion research Institute Integral, 55 percent of those surveyed in Austria fear such a conflict. The threats to peace are seen in particular in connection with the ongoing war in Ukraine, the politics of the United States and immigration, reports Krone .
The results of the survey is that only 16 percent of those surveyed would be willing to defend Austria militarily. This context shows significant differences between the sexes: 27 percent of men and only 9 percent of women would actively intervene. There are also widespread concerns about political extremism; 59 percent perceive right -wing extremist forces as a threat, while 44 percent warn of a strengthened left force.
historical reflections and social responsibility
The survey also brings memories of the dark history of Austria. 43 percent of the respondents believe that repetition of an authoritarian rule is possible similar to that of the Nazi regime. 62 percent see the current political and social situation as a warning that reminds them of the events that led to the rule of the National Socialists. These fears are particularly relevant because the survey was carried out on the occasion of the end of the war 80 years ago.
Austria's responsibility in view of its history is also discussed. 62 percent are convinced that the country is responsible for promoting peace and cooperation in the world due to its past. An overwhelming majority, namely 82 percent, believe that subsequent generations should not be held responsible for the offenses in World War II.
