Austria starts the World Cup qualifier with a strong 2: 1 against Romania!

The Austrian national football team celebrated a successful start to the World Cup qualification by prevailing 2-1 against Romania. The game took place on Saturday in the Happel Stadium in Vienna. Coach Ralf Rangnick and his team were able to show a convincing performance and thus lay the foundation for the first World Cup qualification since 1998.

Already in the 4. minute there was a controversial scene when Konrad Laimer scored in the penalty area of ​​an opponent, but no penalty was awarded. Austria started with other dangerous actions, among other things, Sabitzer Romania's goalkeeper Moldovan was able to force them to the first parade in the 10th minute. Maximilian Wöber had the opportunity to lead in the 19th minute, but shot over the crossbar.

The course of the game

The Austrian team dominated the action on the pitch and earned several chances. Christoph Baumgartner missed the lead in the 34th minute when he only hit Moldovan's thigh from a short distance. Further good goal opportunities arose for Patrick Wimmer, who met the outdoor network in the 36th minute, and for Romano Schmid, whose shot was strongly parried by Moldovan in the 40th minute.

In the 41st minute it was finally time: Michael Gregoritsch scored 1-0. After a throw -in by Maximilian Wöber, the ball landed over the inner rod in the goal. It was Gregoritsch's 14th goal under coach Rangnick and meant an important tour shortly before the half -time break.

After the change of sides, the pressure from the Austrian team continued. Marcel Sabitzer increased to 2-0 in the 60th minute after his shot was deflected and Romanian goalkeeper Moldovan gave no chance. Further change followed by Rangnick in the 61st minute, when Wimmer was replaced by Posch. Arnautovic also came into play for Gregoritsch.

Austria was strong on the defensive and goalkeeper Pentz parried several dangerous situations, including a free kick from Stanciu in the 72nd minute. Romania came to a header chance in the 78th minute through Miculescu, but it remained 2-0 for Austria. There was tension in the air when Sabitzer achieved a supposed 3: 0, but which was not recognized because of offside.

In injury time, Romania was able to score the connection goal through Tanase, which the Austrian defensive put on the test. Nevertheless, the team brought the narrow 2-1 win over the rounds.

Austria can be proud of this performance and is now looking forward to the next game on Tuesday against San Marino, which will kick off at 8:45 p.m.
