Austria opens the doors to endangered scientists and students
Austria has decided in a remarkable step to open its doors to endangered scientists and students from the USA. This initiative follows a fundamental change in the political attitude of the country, especially in comparison to the current US administration under President Donald Trump. Minister of Science Eva-Maria Holzleitner (SPÖ), after a government meeting, emphasizes the importance of international solidarity and the need to offer affected support. According to Kleine Zeitung , the platform Euraxess is used as a central "one-stop-shop" for talent.
In addition, comprehensive programs of the Science Fund FWF and the Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) are advertised that offer young and established researchers various funding opportunities, including:
- esprit for researchers: inside at the beginning of her career.
- astra for advanced postdocs.
- academy fellowships for high -ranking researchers: inside.
- Berta Karlik-Fellowships for women.
Support for endangered students
An important aspect of this initiative is the newly introduced “Students at Risk” program, which was launched by the agency for education and internationalization (OEAD) in cooperation with the Austrian University of Applied Sciences (ÖH). It provides for the provision of monthly scholarships of 1,200 euros for around 50 endangered students. These scholarships are aimed at students who are forced to continue their studies due to democratic political measures and should enable a safe change to an Austrian university.
These comprehensive support measures are part of a larger network of programs that have been launched by various organizations to support endangered scientists. As the DetailsOrt Österreich Quellen
