50 years of Lions Club Wels Pollheim: a festival of friendship and success story
The Lions Club Wels Pollheim celebrated its 50th anniversary with an impressive gala evening in the city theater Wels. Around 100 guests, including club members, friends, families and representatives of friendly Lions clubs from the region, came to appreciate this special occasion. Particularly noteworthy was the presence of a delegation from the Jumelage Club LC Bayerwald from Cham, which symbolically stands for the long-term friendship between the two clubs.
Through the evening, the well-known ORF presenter Eva Pölzl led, while the Big Band Deluxe created a festive atmosphere. Even high-ranking representatives of the Lions organization and politics did not miss this special evening. Karl Brewi, the reigning international director, honored the founding members Horst Kirchgatterer, Peter Drugowitsch and Kristof-Werner Deschu, who performed the courage five decades ago.

The mayor of Wels, Andreas Rabl, was also present and emphasized the important role of the Lions Club for the development of the city in his welcoming words. "What enchanted more than a million visitors today as an initiative of the Lions. This illustrates how the Lions are both charitable and shape cultural life sustainably.
During the evening, the anniversary lion was also solemnly unveiled. From 2025, this art project will bring a total of 30 artistically designed lion statues into the streets of Wels. The lions are the result of a cooperation between the three Wels Lions Club and the City of Wels.
President Franz Grillmair not only looked back on the last 50 years, but also had a striking outlook on the future of the club: "For half a century we have been committed to a great passion for needy individual fates in Wels and the surrounding area. This gala evening was not only an appreciation of our past, but also a promise for the future, our humanitarian mandate continues to to fulfill full use. ”
