In 2025, a fundamental restructuring of the tourism associations, which will significantly shape the landscape. important voices for restructuring

The State Council of Economics and Tourism Markus Achleitner described this step as a significant milestone for the future of tourism in Upper Austria. After approval of the supervisory boards of the relevant tourism associations, the Upper Austria state government will implement the new structure in good time as of January 1, 2025. With this reorganization, resources are to be bundled and visibility in national and international competition is to be improved.

Angelina Eggl, the managing director of the Atterseeee-Eattergau tourism association, underlines the need for a uniform appearance in order to be able to position itself better internationally. Their conviction is that a common brand will help the Salzkammergut to assert itself against the competition, which is particularly important for the revival of tourism after pandemic.

"In the sense of a future more international brand positioning of the Salzkammergut, a united appearance is certainly a strong sign."
Angelina Eggl

Norbert Sperr, chairman of the Salzkammergut Tourismus-Marketing GmbH, also notes that the associations are behind the realignment and will do everything they can to represent the interests of the regions and their visitors as best as possible. Nevertheless, there are still many Details to be clarified, and the merger in the Salzkammergut is expected to only be completed in 2026.

about the new structures

The restructuring is not only expressed in the announcement of the seven future DMO, but also in the allocation of responsibilities and the alignment of working methods. The four new regions form from mergers: the Salzkammergut, the Vitalwelt-Innviertel-Desdidkiertel-Hausruckwald, Pyhrn-Priel-Bad Hall-Steyr and the Mühlviertel National Park. The existing regions of Linz, Donau Upper Austria and Wels remain, which shows that both change and continuity is sought.

In the Vitalwelt-Innviertel-Despektervierte Hausruckwald, which includes 51 communities, the conversion work is already promising. Philipp Haas will take over the management interim. Robert Herzog, Managing Director of the Hausruckwald, expresses his expectations for future cooperation with the Salzkammergut, but is also skeptical and emphasized that he could have lived well without the redesign.

The efforts of these restructuring are a sign that the destination management organizations want to adapt to the challenges of modern tourism. The changes are considered necessary to meet the requirements of a rapidly changing market and to develop innovative approaches to visitor acquisition.
