Marketplace in Zwettl loses the last local supplier: alarm mood among politicians
A difficult blow for the residents of Zwettl an der Rodl: The local supplier Spar-Ganglberger on the market square will close on December 31, 2024 forever. Entrepreneur Joachim Ganglberger, who has operated the business since 1982, justifies this decision with the high investment costs and the too small sales area for the necessary conversions. The family was able to look back on a long Tradition that now ends.
ganglberger confesses that the decision was not easy. In order to remain competitive, he should have invested up to 250,000 euros in new cooling and shelf systems. However, the yields in the food trade are too low to justify these expenses. In addition, the range has recently expanded, which further exacerbates the space problem.
preparation for the closure
Despite the closure, the six employees do not have to fear for their jobs. Ganglberger assures that all those affected can continue to work seamlessly into other SPAR branches in the area. These measures show that the employees are the focus of his considerations. Ganglberger himself is also the operator of the "Bistro Café Felix" in the Linz Business Park, where he offers catering services. He explains that the closure of the savings market in Zwettl is not connected to its new bistro.
reactions of local politicians
Rainer Lenzenweger, the municipal board of the Greens, brings the inactivity of the past few years into play. He criticizes that the municipality has not actively worked on the design of the town center, which only led to an administration of the situation instead of a development. The loss of the Spar-Ganglberger is therefore a clear sign of the challenges with which Zwettl is faced with.
SPÖ community councilor Herbert Enzenhofer visits Ganglberger and emphasizes the social dimension of the closure. Especially for older citizens, the personal shopping experience, which is often associated with small conversations, is lost through the closure. Enzenhofer makes it clear that it is now due to the community representatives to act quickly and find solutions to secure local transport.
