Steyr-Land remains with the old system: yellow sack from 2025 in six municipalities

In Steyr-Land, an interesting discussion has developed that revolves around the waste disposal and especially the yellow sack. In 2025 the yellow sack will be introduced in almost all of Austria, but the previous type of disposal is retained in six municipalities in the region. The municipalities Großraming, Bad Hall, Maria Neustift, Ternberg, Laussa and Waldneukirchen have decided to continue to use the existing waste collection centers (ASZ). This step has some backgrounds that are of great interest to the affected population.

The decision to whereabouts in the previous system was made after a thorough consideration. Anton Silber, the chairman of the Steyr-Land district waste association, explains that the attitude of some community representatives for the yellow sack was perceived as a contradiction. There has been a change between decentralized and central collection over the years. In addition, concerns regarding the nuisance of odors were expressed, since the yellow sack is only emptied every six weeks and the sacks can easily be blown away by the wind. Silver explains: "The BAV could have made the decision on the introduction alone." Instead, the inclusion of the communities was considered important to find solutions together.

whereabouts of the waste collection centers

in Steyr-Land there is already the yellow sack in twelve communities, and two other communities will be added by 2025. In the six communities mentioned, however, the disposal system remains over the waste collection centers. Matthias Haas, Managing Director of BAV, emphasizes the importance of these centers in order to correctly dispose of special fabrics that do not bring any proceeds. These are in particular materials such as wood or building materials that require professional disposal.

The seven waste collection centers and two waste collection islands are still in operation, and the management strives to maintain their opening hours. Haas points out that many substances that end up in residual waste, such as batteries and hard plastics, can be handed over to ASZ properly. An extensive range of disposal remains. "The full range in the ASZ is important. We certainly nobody send home with the trash," assures silver.

For metal packaging, a change will also be introduced from next year. These can continue to be disposed of via the ASZ or the yellow sack. With this new regulation, the metal packaging containers are deducted because they are no longer needed. However, it is pointed out that only correct packaging such as cans and spray cans can be disposed of in the yellow sack, while other waste, such as nails or wires, belong to the ASZ.

What is disposed of where?

Special logos will be used for the disposal of PET bottles and aluminum roses in the future to facilitate the withdrawal in retail. Unsigned packaging must be returned; In contrast, damaged people belong in the yellow sack or to the ASZ. The yellow sack is also used to collect small plastic packaging, while larger, voluminous packaging, such as beverage cartons and metallic packaging, can also be released in the yellow sack or in the ASZ to avoid space and smells.

As for the disposal of glass, paper and cardboard, nothing has changed. Glass containers are available in the communities, while paper and uncoated boxes belong to the old paper bin. A visit to the ASZ is recommended for larger quantities to facilitate recycling.

For the population who has questions about the new regulations, numerous information options are available. Whether by phone via the waste advice or personally in the ASZ, the support and consultations are diverse. For more information and special inquiries, the website of the Steyr-Land waste association offers helpful details.

The strict regulations for waste disposal should not only increase efficiency, but also promote the sustainable handling of resources. With well thought -out concepts it is ensured that the citizens can dispose of their waste correctly and environmentally friendly, which ultimately ensures a clean and proper environment.
