Save living together: Blood donation marathon in Steyr and Steyr-Land

The annual “blood donation marathon” is currently taking place in the Steyr & Steyr-Land region, a particularly important initiative of the Red Cross, which continues until January 3.. For many, this is the opportunity to do something good and to help a person in need, as blood cannonons in Austria are needed every 90 seconds. Especially in the run -up to Christmas, the willingness to donate is of great value, because blood cannot be made artificially.

The blood donation marathon extends over 37 days, which roughly corresponds to the durability of blood. Every healthy adult from the age of 18 can participate in this important campaign. The willingness to donate can make up the difference between life and death for patients with serious illnesses, accidents or during operations.

Lukas Reiter from Dietach is an example of the commitment, which is encouraged by the blood donation marathon. He has regularly donated blood since his age and is now a proud 85-time donor. "It gives me a good feeling to help," explains the young man. He originally started donating blood in his home community, but now he not only donates blood, but also plasma and platelets. "I can only recommend everyone to donate blood," he adds, "you could be able to need a blood pane yourself."

Another committed donor, Ronald Freudenthaller, began donating blood at the age of 18. "At first it was curiosity that formed me, but I also quickly convinced that I could help with my donation." He has trained over the years and is now donating every four weeks. For Freudenthaller it is a matter of course to help others, and he emphasizes the win-win situation that brings a donation. "After each donation you get a high -quality blood finding for your own security," he explains.
