Rieder Red Cross: New drone improves emergency inserts
In Ried, the Red Cross presented an innovative expansion of its means a few days ago: its own drone. This new device will be able to offer a comprehensive overview in large operations, which can significantly improve the responsiveness in the event of emergencies.
"Drones are an extremely versatile aid and will be part of our organization's standard equipment in the future," said Andreas Hattinger, the district rescue commander of Ried, when the drone was handed over. The use of this technology should be used in particular for search inserts or larger emergencies.

Thanks to the drone, emergency services can now receive a bird's eye view of what is happening. This view makes it possible to quickly collect important information, which is particularly crucial to quickly locate missing people. In critical situations, this advantage could even be life -saving.
The drone unit of the Upper Austrian Red Cross, which has existed since 2022, has successfully integrated into the missions. In the month, the drones are active for various aid assignments about six times. When using the search dog squadron, the drone unit is alerted automatically to ensure even faster support.
With this introduction, a trend of digitization in humanitarian work also becomes clear. Gottfried Hirz, President of the Upper Austrian Red Cross, emphasizes how important it is to integrate technical innovations into the aid organization. "Backing up new developments is an integral part of our thinking tradition. We want to provide our emergency services the best possible tools so that they can help even faster on site in an emergency," says Hirz. This shows that the Red Cross is not only based on traditional help, but also adapts to the changing social needs.
The arrival of the drone in Ried marks an important step in the modernization of the methods of use of the Red Cross and shows that technological progress is not ignored even in emergency situations.
