From educational trips and UNESCO sites: Josef Gusenbauers Erbe in Perg

Josef Gusenbauer, a passionate traveler and member of the Catholic Education Center Perg, has launched an impressive initiative that combined educational trips with the visit of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In 2005, after retiring, he used his time to enrich the educational program of the KBW Perg through world trips. During his travels, Gusenbauer visited numerous unique places that are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The first trip began in 2005 and led the group "In the Traces of St. Paulus" to Turkey, where they explored the historical regions of anatolia and Cappadocia. From there, his desire to travel led him to many European countries, and even to Asia with stations in Nepal, China and Tibet. He also discovered South and Central America, including Peru and Cuba, as well as North Africa with destinations in Egypt and Morocco. A planned cruise on the Rhône and Saône in the south of France had to be canceled due to the Corona pandemic, as well as a trip to England, which was also already in the planning.

Thanks to the commitment from Gusenbauer, the KBW Perg received the innovation award of the Catholic Education Agency of the Diocese of Linz in 2007. Over the years, over 60 World Heritage Sites have been visited, proof of the sustainable and culturally enriching effects of his travels. The careful planning and the selection of special sights distinguished every trip. Dr. Peter Nefischer, the head of the KBW Perg, emphasized Gusenbauer's contribution in a ceremony and presented him with a "relaxation pillow" with travel motifs as recognition.

A special detail of the celebration was the symbolic handover of the entire travel fund to Dechant Pastor Konrad Hörmanseder. Gusenbauer decided that the funds for the interior renovation of the church of the parish of Perg-St. To use Jakob, which shows his deeply rooted connection to the community.
